ORLANDO, Fla. - The Bishop Verot Vikings made their longest road trip of the season last Friday, as the Vikings traveled up to Orlando to take on the Bishop Moore Hornets.

FIRST QUARTER- Both teams saw their first drives stall out, but it was the Vikings that got on the board first. With 5:20 on the clock, sophomore kicker Deaglan Camron drilled a 29-yard field goal to give Verot a 3-0 lead. The Verot defense set up BV’s first touchdown, as a forced fumble was jumped on by Keon Anderson. The Vikings then took a 10-0 lead when Jacob Azizi connected with Malik Curtis on a one-handed catch in the endzone for a 15-yard touchdown.

SECOND QUARTER: Early in the second quarter, Bishop Moore responded with their first score of the game. Quarterback Luke Headrick completed a pass to Marc Morrison for a five-yard touchdown on fourth down, cutting the Verot lead to 10-7. The Vikings scored just 22 seconds later, as Azizi found Curtis for the second time, this time from 46 yards out to extend the Verot lead to 17-7. With the Hornets on offense, Verot’s “No Name Defense” again had time to shine. Tristen Crouse picked off a Bishop Moore pass, which set up a 76-yard catch and run from Chris Graves, which gave Verot a 24-7 lead. The Hornets would get a score back before halftime, as Headrick scored on a 5-yard run with 2:19 on the clock, setting the halftime score at Bishop Verot 24, Bishop Moore 14.

THIRD QUARTER - Bishop Moore controlled the third quarter, cutting the Verot lead to three points on a 13-yard touchdown run from Heath Headrick with 4:55 on the clock. Just over three minutes later, the Hornets took their first lead of the game on a 44-yard touchdown pass from Luke Headrick to Morrison. Crucially, the extra point was blocked, keeping Bishop Moore’s lead at 27-24 entering the fourth quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER – Bishop Moore held the three-point lead until the 3:41 mark of the final quarter when Camron made his second field goal of the night, a 25-yarder that tied the game at 27. The Hornets retook the lead just 97 seconds later on a 79-yard touchdown pass from Headrick to Morrison, who scored his third touchdown of the night. The extra point was blocked for the second time, but the Hornets held a 33-27 lead. Verot had one final chance to rally and took advantage of it. The Vikings drove down the field, setting up a 35-yard touchdown pass from Azizi to Curtis with 48 seconds left. Camron made the clutch extra point, putting Verot back on top.
