Get ready for another great high school football game Friday night at Vikings Stadium for
the area's game of the week. The Bishop Verot Vikings (1-0) are hosting one of the area’s best
high school football teams, The Dunbar Tigers (0-0) at 7 pm.

The Dunbar Tigers, the #2 team in the area (Lee and Collier County) are coming off of a
week of disappointment because their game was canceled due to Covid-19. Dunbar is hoping to
have all of their players ready against the Vikings, but either way, the Tigers should bring a tough
match to the Vikings in all areas.

The Tiger's defense will be led by defensive stars Shawn Russ and Demetrie Morgan. Russ
is a four-star defensive back with offers from the University of Florida, Clemson, and more.
Morgan is a 6’6”, 215 pound senior who is going to make some big plays.
The Bishop Verot Vikings will be led by freshman quarterback, Carter Smith. Smith is
coming off of a two-touchdown game last week and is being seen as the star quarterback. Will
he be able to continue this performance on this Friday’s game? Last week the Vikings barely
pulled off the win against Lely. Smith and the Vikings will have an even tougher matchup against
the Tigers.

The Vikings will depend on their defensive leaders David Portu and Austin Redd. Last week,
Portu finished tied for 3rd in the area in tackles with 14, and 2nd in sacks for 2. Redd led the area
in tackles with 17. Both Portu and Redd will need to have another big night for the Vikings to
have a chance against the Tigers.

It seems that the Tigers are aggravating some of the Vikings players. Vikings player Trevor
Horlbeck recently said, “They’re talking trash on social media and they are going to realize how
stupid they are for doing that.”

Bruce Thompson has been working hard during the offseason for games like this. The
Vikings are hoping he will make some big plays Friday night. Bruce seemed pretty confident
when he said, “They have a bunch of good players, but I feel like if we all do our jobs and do
what we are supposed to do we’ll come out with the win.”
No matter the outcome, this is going to be a hard-fought game for both teams. Neither team
wants to go home with their first loss of the season.
