This past Friday, March 5 2021, Verot’s track team took part in the Larry Richardson Invitational at Booker HS. Some of the schools that attended were IMG Academy, Venice, Sarasota, and Cardinal Mooney to name some. Verot boys came in third place overall for this meet and the girls placed second. The school that placed overall first was IMG Academy. Verot girls had 73 points tied with Lakewood Ranch, and the boys had 63 points.

The first events were the field events. A thrower, Wyatt Whealen, placed third for shot put overall with a throw of 12.39 meters, then in the discus, he placed ninth with a throw of 32.73 meters. For our jumpers, Richard Nest placed eighth for a triple jump with a jump of 9.75 meters.
Next was the running events. For the boys, 100 meters Malik Curtis placed third overall with a time of 11.41. For the girls 4x100, they placed fifth with a time of 52.30 and Geri Herrera placed first for the girls 200 meters with a time of 25.70.
The boys almost placed first but were just shy a few points from winning the meet overall, and the girls tied for second with Lakewood Ranch. Overall most of the members of the team were happy with what they got and how they placed.
