Last Friday (9/3) our Vikings hosted Dunbar in the Tigers covid-delayed season opener.

In the first quarter, Bishop Verot got some key momentum with an interception by Landon Bennet. The Vikings started off their opening possession with two first downs before stalling out and punting.

On the Tiger's ensuing possession, the momentum shifted quickly and Dunbar opened the scoring with a 30-yard rushing touchdown.

After a few punt exchanges and a score, Verot got a key three out and drove down the field capped by an Andrew Kelton touchdown to make it 8-16, which seemed like it may start some back and forth scoring. Bishop Verot had a difficult time keeping up with the bigger, faster players of Dunbar.

After the half, Verot seemed to have had the momentum until Dunbar’s running back broke off a 47-yard run and from there on Verot did not score another point, after the late Verot touchdown in the 3rd Dunbar ripped off 4 consecutive touchdowns.

Freshman Quarterback Cater Smiths runs were a dominant force in the game with a total of 55 yards and Trevontay Watts averaging 18.3 receiving yards coming off suspension.

Dunbar lead in just about all statistics with their top scorer, Antony Benjamin, had two touchdowns and 114 yards.

It was a disappointing game for Verot and they look to rebound against IMG (White) team Friday, September 10 at 7:00 PM in Viking Stadium.
