The Bishop Verot volleyball team has a promising season in store for the 2020-2021 school year. The Bishop Verot Volleyball team welcomes back eight seniors, who will play a major role in the team’s success. The team is excited to have Bella Shahriari, Josie Bravo, Maggie Harrel, Victoria Wentworth-Buchanan, Malia Leonard, Gracie Gerlach, Rae-lee Stefanacci, and Maddy Logan on the roster once again.

Bravo and Shahriari are expected to have a standout season, as they led the Vikings in kills in 2019; Shahriari led the way with 99 kills, and Bravo had 86. Harrel is expected to play a big role on the defensive end, as she had 43 solo blocks a year ago. Wentworth-Buchanan is expected to be a solid libero, as she comes off a junior season with 145 digs. Leonard and Logan are both expected to be impressive setters for the Vikings, totaling 513 assists last season. Gerlach and Stefanacci are expected to contribute at the net for Verot.

The program also welcomes Marissa Peck, the only freshman, to the Viking volleyball team. She shows a lot of promise and is expected to have a good year. The Vikings will also bring up a group from the junior varsity ranks, which includes Morgan Crawford, Sophia LaRosa, Caroline O’Halloran, Ava Schropp, Ava Hemann, Olivia Irion, and Isabel Schrotenboer. While most of them came up from an impressive JV season, they will be learning quite a bit on the varsity level.

Verot will be led by returning head coach John Leonard, who is in his fourth season as head coach. Over three seasons, the Vikings have posted a 49-30 record and two appearances in the state playoffs.
